Why does crude palm oil need to be refined?
The main purposes of palm oil refining process is to purify the oil and remove impurities through degumming，deacidification, decolorization and deodorization process and then obtain pure and relatively non-impurities of high-quality edible oil. The purpose of degumming: degumming is one of the most important step in palm oil refining process. Effective degumming operation will be conducive to ensuring the quality of product oil and reducing loss. Because the presence of gelatin will reduce the edible quality of the product oil, and will make the amount of clay used in the oil decolorization increase, if there is gum before deodorization, the oil will produce a serious odor and affect the stability of the product oil.
The purpose of deacidification: deacidification is also the main process of palm oil refining. The free fatty acids in oil can be removed by chemical or physical methods. Alkali refining (neutralization) is commonly used in neutralize FFA in oil, during this process it will produce soapstock , then separating it from the oil. Palm oil deacification process will lay a good foundation for oil decolorization, deodorization, hydrogenation and further processing of oil products.
The purpose of decolorization: Because there is pigment in crude oil, the oil color is dark. In order to lighten oil color, we need to using the white clay to absorb the pigment away, then using vibrating filter to separate the waste clay.
The purpose of deodorization: General speaking , the crude oil smells not good, it will affect of oil storage and price. So we usually use the direct steam to take odors.
